Work on the 16th

We have been busy getting the new tee ready on the 16th, with a hedge going in to separate the tee from the practice green, this is a hornbeam hedge & can grow to 80ft so will need to be trimmed regularly!

The first picture shows the hedge ready for planting, with George trying to hide in the 'Gator & the next picture shows the hedge in place looking back towards the car park

We have tidied up the fairway where the trees have been felled or moved, by blinding off with topsoil and over-seeding, it may not look much at the moment but should soon green up, this is the view from the new tee

This week

Work has started on building the new yellow tee for the 1st hole, this is part of the programme to prevent balls going onto the A64.
Work starting on stripping the top level from the old tee
starting to build the height of the tee...

& levelling work starting

Once the preparation work is completed the tee will be left to settle then levelled off.

Rootzone and top dressing will be added to the top of the tee prior to turf being laid.

More work this week

We have been adding trees into the copse on the right hand side of the 3rd fairway to add more definition to it
Holes being dug for the trees (that digger gets everywhere!)
How it looks now...

This week

Whilst we are still working on the 16th hole & 18th there is still work to do on the rest of the course, as it is drying out a little it's been a good opportunity to dig out some of the ditches

Work on 16 & 18

Work is continuing on pollarding trees on the 16th and new trees going in to give a better definition to how the hole will look; Askham Bryan College have pollarded some of the Poplars for us, this is a great chance for their students to get some practical experience and helps us too!

Trees pollarded by Askham Bryan College students on the right hand side of 16
This has been a great opportunity to move trees and plant out more, there is a good mix of trees going in with maple, rowan, silver birch, oak, alder, beech & lime trees being planted.
Digging out ready for planting...

Pines being moved from the left of the 18th green
Another pine tree being moved

The copse between the 16th and the practice ground taking shape
Larger trees are being planted to give better definition, this beech tree could grow to 80 -100 feet tall & live for up to 300 years, so it will see us out!!

Welcome Back!

Due to the inclement weather before Christmas there was not a lot to report on the blog, but now we're into the new year things are starting to move again.

We have even managed to cut the greens once this year!

...the next picture shows one of the copses having the lower branches removed...

& we've verti-drained the greens to get some air into the roots
George has been carrying out servicing on some of the machines whilst they are not being used...
and we have deep raked the bunkers after all the rain compacted the sand.
